Clinic

The death rate in Uganda could be reduced drastically if there was better health care in the country. There are still great numbers dying from conditions, like malaria, which can be successfully treated.

Up until 1997 there was no First Aid or medical clinic in the whole area round the children’s village. On the 2nd of June that year the clinic was opened on the compound.

There is now a doctor there 5 days a week. Twice a week a dentist is there and 24 hours a day the clinic is open for First Aid and other emergencies. There is also a laboratory which can test blood and urine samples.

Three months after the opening, it became evident that there should be an extension. In 1998 the maternity ward was opened and a ward with a few beds where patients could stay for a few days to recover. The medical clinic plays an important role in their lives in and around the village and especially for the villages Nsasa, Nabasuqwe, Namugongo and Jianda. Every day an average of 30 people visit the clinic.

Many lives have been saved and many babies born there. Another big contribution to the public health is clean drinking water. In the children’s village there is a well of 30 meters deep which pumps up clean drinking water into a water tower with the capacity of 20.000 litres. This means clean drinking water for the village, guaranteed, even if there is an electric cut for three days!
