What we do

Children’s Welfare Mission meets most of the millennium goals laid down by the United Nations. These goals are indicated by icons. The explanation of these icons you can find on www.un.org/millenniumgoals

SPIRITUAL CARE
In the children’s village Namugongo we take care of the orphans. Most orphans arriving in our village have been traumatized. Our pastoral worker and his team will guide the children spiritually. He makes them realise they are special and valuable. Step by step they feel accepted again.

FOSTER FAMILY UNITS
Under supervision of a foster-mother the children sleep and live in small residential circles. Here they receive personal attention, they become like brothers and sisters to each other and they are safe.

goal4CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION
The children have access to clean drinking water, showers, washbasins and lavatories. A basic requirement to keep the children healthy. To us very common, but certainly not for Africa.

goal1PROPER NUTRITION
The children receive 3 meals a day, because you can not learn on an empty stomach.

OUR SCHOOL
Our school is certified by the Uganda government and has been nominated as the best
goal3goal2school in the region. All teachers have their education qualification. The classes are not overcrowded, but consists of maximum 30 children. There is an equal number of boys and girls at the school. Both receive seven years of primary and six years of secondary/vocational school.

goal3A PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA IS THE KEY
In Uganda there is a great shortage of well educated professional workers. A professional diploma is the key to a promising future. There is a great need of nurses, carpenters, electricians and IT-experts. Here are the opportunities for our children, therefore we provide them education in these areas.

THE CHILDREN HELP
The children clean their own clothes, rooms and beds. Next to that they wake up early to finish their homework. They are very aware of the future which is presented to them and are very determined to finish their education well.

goal5goal4goal6MEDICAL CARE
The children’s village has it’s own clinic. If needed, the children will receive medical care. The clinic is also open for families outside the children’s village.

The clinic provides first aid, has a dentist, a laboratory and a maternity ward. Per month our midwife delivers 20 babies. The clinic has a child vaccination programme and gives out information about birth control and Aids.

THE SURROUNDINGSgoal7Children’s Welfare Mission acts out of a deep emotion and love for the fellow human being. It is grounded on christian values and standards and wants to give expression to the call to care for the widows and orphans. The childrens village shares in what she has. The watersupply, the church, the vocational school and the clinic are open for all people, regardless their origin, culture or believe. In this way we help the locals in the surrounding areas.
